| The
Holy Blood and The Holy Grail
The authors claim this book to be the most shattering secret
of the last two thousand years. First published 15 years ago it sparked off a
huge controversy, the world over and its contents are still talked about now.
This is a review on the udated version.
In 1885, a new parish priest by the name of Bérenger
Sauniére arrived in the remote village of Renes L-Chateaux at the foot of the
Pyrenees and discovered something of great importance that threatened the
Church. Two parchments - genealogies, one dating from 1244 and one from 1644. So began the quest for truth laid out in the
book, The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. A quest that seemed to uncover secrecy
and murder.
The writers of the book were led “like lambs to the
slaughter” to an appearance on the BBC Omnibus program as a result of their
work. The pages of the book certainly contained something of a controversial
nature, so controversial that they had brought on an attack by the Bishop of
Birmingham. If you are anything like me, reading this sort of information is
more than enough to tempt you to read it and make up your own mind.
Despite the fact that the authors kept stating and
re-stating that their work was hypothetical, presenting strong evidence but NOT
proof, the attacks from the media and Church were completely unwarranted and
could be said to have been completely over-the-top, which made me think that
something was being concealed, especially in view of the fact that all the
Church could ever offer on the life of Jesus was also hypothetical.
Even though I found the book somewhat hard going and rather
“wordy” in places, it gave me a lot to think about. For instance, I found the
long chapter on the Knights Templar, how they were supposed to have begun, rise
to have tremendous worldly power and riches, fall by the hand of the Church and
rise up again to exact their revenge, fascinating. Apparently, after laying down their lives for Christianity, the
Church accused them of worshipping heads that appeared as a result of some sort
of satanic worship and urinating on the crucifix. In answer to these charges,
many of them were tortured and put to death.
However, the author’s claim, a certain organisation called
the Prieuré de Sion was the secret order that created the Knights Templar and
continues to exist to this day having orchestrated major events in Western
history. The aim of the Prieuré is to
re-establish and restore the true bloodlines that are rightful heirs to the
thrones throughout Europe. A bloodline that came down from Jesus who had a
child with Mary Magdalene and according to modernist thought, was never
crucified.
In fact, according to the authors, based on this evidence,
Pope Pius X ordered his clerics to denounce Modernism* in 1910. But in Britain Modernism was totally
accepted by William Temple, Archbishop of Canterbury.
* (Modernism a movement to examine religion with science and
not blind dogma)
The Prieuré de Sion was said to exist by the French
government’s publication “Journal Officiel” in 1956 and not only that, claim
the authors, it was also registered with the police.
Document after document
refer to the organization but much of this writing seems as if it is a
deliberate diversion to get people “off the track”. Some writings claimed that
not all members of the Prieuré were Jewish. Strange statement to make by what
is reputed to be a Christina organization.
More and more amazing
evidence was uncovered that suggested a cover-up. The Morovingians were
monarchs the pope had made a pact with, when the Church was on the brink of
collapse back in 5th Century.
Later this pact was broken with the assassination of Dagobert III. The authors then go on to investigate why these monarchs were so
important that the Church would want to get rid of them. An interesting point about the Morovingians
states that they were in power, not by usurping previous dynasties and were
peace-loving, rulers said to have healing and clairvoyant powers. The wore
their hair long and it was said that it gave them their power – similar to the
Biblical tale of Samson.
Findings about Jesus
The Crucifixion
What seems rather strange, suggests the authors, were that
the Jews would be responsible for the crucifixion. Strange because it was a
Roman practice and if Jesus was a religious teacher without any political
agenda at all, why would Rome be interested in crucifying him and not the many
other religious teachers that were around at the time? So, if indeed the Roman crucified him,
wouldn’t it be pertinent to suggest that Jesus was of political significance
and a threat to Rome?
Another anomaly is that when someone was crucified, under
Roman law, the body was denied burial. Why then, would Rome allow the body of
Jesus to be removed and placed in a tomb?
Why would they repeal their own laws?
The authors’ suggest that in the face of conflicting
evidence in the New Testament itself, it is not in the realms of impossibility
that Jesus was crucified and if he was, could it have been a hoax, either to
exonerate the Romans and blame the Jews or to fulfil an ancient prophesy? If it was a hoax, could it have been that,
customary to Jewish tradition, Jesus was not only of Royal descent (House of
David) but would have bent to Jewish pressure to be married and have children?
Page after page of very convincing evidence is presented
that suggests that not only was Jesus of royal blood, but also was married and
had children. The Holy Grail then, is
really the Holy Bloodline or descendents of Jesus. Perhaps another reason to
let the people of the time to think he had died – to protect his descendents?
But why would Rome suddenly do an about turn and become
Christian? Guilt if there was a crucifixion? The hunger for power over the
people? The blame was transferred to the Jews and Jesus made spiritual leader
of the Romans. Why?
As in Roman custom, the leader (who was not the Church) had
to have a leader who was a deity, just like Caesar was deified. Jesus then became deified as the Son of God.
My Thoughts...
Early Gnosticism was condemned by the Church in Rome because
the former inspired personal experience of union with the Divine and if such
experience was to be available to everyone who strove for it, the power of
priests would dwindle away along with that of the Church. When one thinks of it, such an occurrence
was inevitable and that is why the Church has fought tooth and nail over the
centuries with the condemnation of everything it considered to be a
threat.
It was nearly always the feminine that was condemned (as in
the witch hunts of the Dark Ages). Take the Indian culture for example with its
yogic practices and goddesses was this not also accused of heresy?
So another question that needs to be asked here is, “if the
Church would accuse and burn innocents at the stake for witchcraft and heresy
(an act of muder), would they not, just as readily tamper with the writings of
the New Testament and remove anything or anyone that would provide evidence of
such tampering?
So, has this book proved that there is a bloodline coming
down from Jesus to this day? The answer has got to be no, they have not proved
it, but the authors have supplied some pretty convincing arguments. I think the
question that really needs to be answered is, does the church have proof that
Jesus was crucified and that there is no bloodline to the present day?
Thanks for reading.
