HP Photosmart Printer
6-colour Thermal Printing

The HP Photosmart 8250 is a 6-colour photo printer with an LCD screen that prints photos of excellent quality up to the size of A4.  Because of its thermal printing facility it produces dry splash-proof and smudge-proof pictures.

The printer can be used stand-alone, printing from a wide range of camera memory cards, or can be connected to a PC. It has two trays, one for ordinary paper and a photo-tray for post-card sized photo. Another good feature is that it will print multiple photographs as thumb-prints on a single sheet. You can then mark in a box which ones you want printed together with style (e.g borderless etc), feed the single sheet back into the machine and it will print the selected full sized versions.

Economy & Speed
This is an extremely fast printer, suitable for both non-technically-minded beginners and experts alike.  It will print an A4 photograph in high quality in under a minute and a churn text documents one after another in seconds.

Exact specs regarding printing speeds are...
Up to 32 ppm - black draft - A4 (210 x 297 mm) & Up to 7.8 ppm - black normal - A4 (210 x 297 mm) & Up to 2.1 ppm - colour best - A4 (210 x 297 mm) & Up to 31 ppm - colour draft - A4 (210 x 297 mm) & Up to 5.7 ppm - colour normal - A4 (210 x 297 mm) & Up to 7.3 ppm - colour fast - A4 (210 x 297 mm)

It has 6 cartridges and will print up to 800 black and white copies and 350 colour ones. Another excellent feature is that the printer will never run out of ink in the middle of printing because the machine checks the available ink before even starting a page or photo. This puts a stop to that annoying waste of expensive photo paper when a colour runs out in the middle of a print run. The ink cartridges provide vivid, consistency due to the breakthrough ink-delivery system. Ink cartridges (HP 363) at the time of writing can be found for around £10 but a more thorough search on line, might produce cheaper ones.

The max. resolution in black and white is 1200dpi X 1200dpi. In colour it’s 4800dpi X 1200dpi. If connected to a computer (usb), it works with all Windows platforms from Windows 98 up to XP and Apple Mac 10.2 or later.

 Price & Availability on line.
A search on Kelko returns suppliers selling this printer from around £135 + postage costs and on Amazon UK from around £130 + postage  and $142 from Amazon USA (at January 2006).
